Let's TWIST Training
Lets TWIST (Train Women in Science, Engineering,
Construction & Technology) - a partnership between
Bradford College, Department of Construction and
Engineering and Sheffield Hallam University, School
of Environment and Development , with national co-ordination
by Bradford College.
The training is designed so that employers are able to:
- Share and develop good practice in the training of women in non-traditional areas
- Identify practical solutions to common problems faced by women in the learning and working environments
- To have the chance to look at and consider case study material
The training programme is divided into a number of sessions each covering a different aspect of good practice in training women. A variety of methods are used: discussion, group work, information handouts, using video and case study material where appropriate.
Wider Horizons Work Experience Pack
The Wider Horizons work placement scheme was created
as a direct response to the difficulties present
in gender stereotyped career choice and work experience.
The scheme aims to provide 2 or 3 week placemenmts
for girls in the South Yorkshire area in non-traditional
jobs. This will provide them with alternative career
knowledge and experience, ensure greater objectivity
when assessing career opitons, increase awareness
of opportunites available, stimulate interest in
SECT, and build confidence and skills through challenging
placements.
Peer Mentoring Circles Handbook
This handbook explains the best practice for conducting
Peer Mentoring Circles. The circles have been devised
in order to support more women in a sustainable
way, and this is especially useful for women returners. This
method of mentoring allows women to support each
other and does not need a mentor, although role model
women may be useful in some meetings.
Peer Mentoring Circles are used for those women who do not necessarily need a one on one mentoring relationship, or where geographically the chance of finding a suitable mentor is remote. Peer Mentoring Circles can also help in situations where a has unclear objectives but wants to explore ways she could progress and develop.
