Case Study - Inspace Partnerships
Inspace is a specialist service provider to both the social housing market and the corporate arena. The company is responsible for the repairs and maintenance of around 60,000 homes, and the construction of 2500 new homes in the last two years.
Inspace undertook the Culture Analysis Tool survey at two of its branches – Barnsley and Burton-on-Trent, at the recommendation of the Sector Skills Council for Building Services, Summitskills. The results of the survey led to Inpsace implementing a national ‘Women in Construction’ strategy as part of a three year Action Plan, which involves more flexible working, subsidised childcare, and Gender Equality training.
A steering group for this strategy has been formed, of which JIVE are members, and this group feeds back into the Equality and Diversity Forum. Three other steering groups were also set up to feed into the E&D Forum including:
- Diversity in the community
- Embracing the right behaviour in the workplace
- Fair play and promotion
As part of the Fair Pay and Promotion strategy, Inspace have defined equal pay salary guidelines for all posts, defined career paths for both staff and trades workforce and ensured they have consistent structures and job descriptions across the business, and these will be supported by monthly reviews of the company succession plan.
Inspace have reviewed their recruitment procedures and have devised a new publicity campaign detailing the initiatives described above.
