Women and Manual Trades - Key Achievements
The Further Education Women in Engineering, Construction (FEWEC) project aims to raise awareness of the low number of women who are teaching, training and providing technical support in construction, engineering and CAD in F.E. colleges and training providers nationally.
The aims of the project:
- To increase the numbers of the women working in these areas
- To address the isolation that these women experience and to empower them by networking electronically and in person
- To advertise employment opportunities
- Produce case studies for best practice in retaining and attracting women to teach and train in construction and engineering
- Meetings with senior managers to promote good practice organisations
Achievements:
- Fifty four women have signed to the project.
- Three networking events, two in the south and one in the north. Positive feedback from members that networking in person is highly enjoyable and effective in giving isolated women more confidence in their own abilities as trainers and lecturers and that the difficulties they individually experience are shared by other women doing the same work in different organisations. Also an event in Wales.
- Three jobs advertised to the network. Individual support and signposting to women on the project about where to find work and links to people who are looking for lecturers and assessors.
