JIVE - Creating Change for Women and Girls in Science, Engineering, Construction and Technology

JIVE Objectives - Regional Hubs

Three regional hubs have been developed to ensure the national work of the project is rolled out at a local level. These hubs have worked with local employers, schools and colleges to raise awareness of alternative careers, promote good HR practice within SECT organisations, increase the number of female apprentices.

North West

The JIVE North West Hub is based at Blackburne House in Liverpool. The Hub consists of four partners:

Blackburne House Group
University of Salford
Positive Steps Oldham
Manchester Women's Electronic Village Hall

The North West Hub works to developing learning and employment pathways from school to work and encouraging collaborative partnerships between organisations to address the barriers encountered by girls wishing to enter SECT careers; provide access to training and resources for all women; deliver high quality training, education and consultancy services.

South East

The JIVE South East Hub is based at Oxford Women's Training, part of the Oxford & Cherwell Valley College. JIVE South East has organised a series of networking events for women returners, and promote the value of mentoring and to disseminate the basic principles to organisations and individuals. Working with employers at a variety of levels has formed an increasingly significant part of the work of the South East hub. JIVE has carried out cultural analysis for Abingdon, Witney college and Hounslow Homes and will do so in the future for Transport for London.

OWT also provide networking and provide mentoring support for women to help overcome isolation and build confidence. Such an approach also helps to address the additional barriers faced by women from black and minority ethnic communities, those with caring responsibilities or returning to education.

Yorkshire & Humber

The Yorkshire & Humber Hub is based at the UK Resource Centre for Women in Science Engineering and Technology, and works in partnership with Bradford College and Sheffield Hallam University. The Hub has worked with a number of local organisations, including Hull College, Yorkshire Water, Wates Construction, 2010 Rotherham Ltd, and Inspace Partnerships, and developed the Wider Horizons Work Experience programme for girls.
